I am a Naval Historian. I have written three books since 1994. They are PT BOATS IN ACTION, VOSPER MTBs IN ACTION, and I've co-authored SCHNELLBOOT IN ACTION. I have also written several articles that have appeared in MODEL SHIP BUILDER, SHIPS IN SCALE, MODEL SHIP JOURNAL and the International Plastic Modelers' Society's MODELERS JOURNAL since 1996. I was awarded the 2000 Clean Sweep Award by the Veterans Association known as PT BOATS, INCORPORATED because of my continuing effort to promote the history of PT boats in World War II.
I am also involved with The Higgins Boat Society. The goal of this society is the restoration of the former PT-659. They have an ultimate goal of getting the boat into operational status again, run it for a while and then, donate her to the D-Day Museum.
The boat is currently in Oregon, where the hulk was utilized for parts in the restoration of her near-sister, PT-658, which has been beautifully restored to operational status by The Save-The-PT Group. The Higgins Boat Society has to get the hulk of the 659 from Oregon to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she will be restored.
